cabling-testing

Whether installing new cable, or troubleshooting existing cable, cable testing plays an important role in the process. Common tests for data cabling include length, wiremap, attenuation, NEXT, DC loop resistance, and return loss.

As networks evolve, so do the requirements of the cabling infrastructure to support them. New standards are continuously being developed to provide guidelines for cabling professionals when installing, testing, troubleshooting, and certifying both copper and fibre, there are specific requirements and potential pitfalls in implementing these technologies.

Cable testing provides a level of assurance that the installed cabling links provide the desired transmission capability to support the data communication desired by the users.

FIP OPTICAL NETWORK TESTING

Optical network problems are often caused by dirty/damaged endface connectors. Using a Fibre Inspection Probe to ensure that connectors/adaptors are clean and exempt of any defect is where accurate testing starts.

The probe is capable of seeing scratches and dirt particles as small as 1um. Images can be captured to a portable platform or PC.

An FIP can be used for inspection of patch cords, patch panel bulkheads, single-mode fibre and multi-mode fibre connectors. Full detailed test reports are available presenting clear-cut pass/fail verdicts.
